11:54 am - Attn: Brisbane peoples!
GraysOnline auction house is currently liquidating a screen printing business. The auction is pick-up only from Brisbane.

Sale overview is here.

Click though to the auction catalog and then scroll past all the machinery. There are about 10 lots of 15 part-rolls of assorted fabrics currently going for around $40 each!

I estimate there to be a minimum of around 100 metres in each lot (probably a lot more). Fabrics appear to be t-shirting, poly-interlock and lycra. Could be a bargain - good for reselling!

Plus there are also a few lots of display mannequins (just the black half torso ones though).

The auction ends tomorrow at 4pm.

11:39 pm - Reprinted for Posterity
Can't be bothered typing the back story. There really isn't any and it does stand on its own. Basically David is (maybe) going paint balling tomorrow with a bunch of guys and is (kinda) offering his car as transport.

(email begins)

I'll be driving anyway.

I'd be willing to give a few people a lift, but it might be better if they are not nervous passengers. Also, when it comes to people messing with my car, I have no sense of humour.

No drinking, no smoking, no eating, no wetting your pants, no after-game paint, no making out in the back seat, no excessive perfume, no pets, no bringing pieces of your pets, no sharks (even if it isn't a pet), no knee-high socks with shorts, no jokes about putting blu-tak on gerbils paws so they can be conveniently stuck to the wall for later, no kicking, no littering in the car or out of the window (I detest when someone is too lazy to find a bin), no complaining about my driving (in the car), complaining about my driving is ok out of the car but if you expect a lift back in the same car you might want to wait until you are back in Adelaide, no doing something deliberately annoying just because it isn’t on this list (like bringing a crocodile that isn’t a pet), and lastly, management reserves the right to refuse entry.

Those few that can abide by these simple rules (and can put up with both me and my driving) are welcome to catch a lift with me.

If you live in Noarlunga I will not be swinging by your place “on my way” North.

David.

5:04 pm - Captain's Log - Additional
I just remembered that on the Friday night of Melbourne Supanova, when I was wearing my Lolita outfit, someone recognised me from my Zatanna costume! Which I last wore to my very first convention, Armageddon 2007!

Oh... and I also just realised that the dude walking around in the gas mask that night wasn't a dude, but was actually [info]chastangela!

Whoa... that was fast. There are some familiar faces in this video from the courier mail about the Queen St Mall preview.

4:53 pm - Melbourne Supanova 2009 - Day 3
Photos from the weekend are here

Oh yeah, Sunday, what happened Sunday?

Wearing: Silhouette. A couple people recognised the character. A lovely girl dressed as Queen Beryl from Sailor Moon requested the V-day Kiss pose from the opening montage. Our lovely photographers forgot to mention that they had finished taking shots, and we held the pose for a little longer than required!

Lots of flies. I swear there weren't this many flies yesterday. It was quite ridiculous, though I refuse to comment on what many people believe attracted them to the showgrounds.

Um... what else?

Helped judge cosplay. Was fun... and man, that host was GOLD. I think he's going places with that talent.

I suppose that was it. I seem to remember Saturday quite clearly, but can't remember much about Sunday. Oh well.

I desperately want to go to Brisnova, but as it starts tomorrow that is obviously not gonna happen. I'm pretty sure I'm going to get to Sydnova (or at least attempt to) as Dirk Benedict will be there!

12:59 pm - Melbourne Supanova 2009 - Day 2
Photos from the weekend are here

Wearing: X-men comic classic version Rogue (green and gold)
Pick Alison and Kelly up from city. They are not in costume. *shakes head* Weird.
Get to venue. Awesome parking space. Head over to talk to people instead of waiting in ridiculously long line.

OMG! Richard Hatch walks by, pretend to be all cool, instead melting inside. David is all "Hey, How's it going?" Hatch says "Hi." Nice guy! I mention that he is one of the few people I fangirl over. I believe people laugh at me.

Walk around for a bit in dealer's hall. One Day In Paradise stand is full of frilly goodness!
Some nice people from the Artists' Alley call me over and we take some pictures. I love it when people actually recognise the costume and appreciate it!

Buy a collectible (original series) BSG Apollo doll for $25. Awesomesauce!

Stand in line to get it autographed by Richard Hatch. One of his handlers say that Hatch is supposed to be on break, but didn't want to leave his fans waiting in line. Nice guy!

Aaah! My turn.

Hatch comments on my outfit. Beaming, I clumsily hand him the doll and the autograph ticket. David asks if he can take a photo, Hatch says no, because of the official photos and his handler won't let him. (After this weekend I notice other people got photos with him at the autograph table. I assume he just didn't realise and they told him it was ok after me... Or he just wanted to hurry up and get to his break... oh well). I don't really mind and make a joke with the handler by pointing away and saying "what's that" (pretending to distract him) the handler is a good sport and plays along, laughs all round. Hatch signs my doll and then I shake his hand and tell him it was nice to meet him. He makes another comment about my outfit, this time saying it's sexy! I keep my cool, until I'm out of sight, before I jump up and down and squeal like a little girl. *Ahem* Maybe.

The girl in front of me in line had asked for and received 'an awkward hug.' I wish I could do that... but I don't think I ever would.

The next hour is a bit of a blur. Still beaming about meeting Richard Hatch.

Go into one of the seminar rooms for the end of Bonnie Piesse's panel. Stay for Suzanne Wood and Jennifer Fallon's panel - was very good, funny and informative.

Finally! Richard Hatch's panel. Also very, very good. He shows a few clips, including his trailer for Battlestar Galactica: The Second Coming (his attempt to get BSG continued - it's a shame it never got picked up, as there is no reason we couldn't have had that in the 90s and still had new BSG in the 00s) unfortunately the windows are unable to be covered it's too bright to see them.

Everyone gets kicked out of the room before Katee Sackhoff's panel, due to no camera policy. Some people are really not happy. Wander around some more. Catch up with peoples and talk for a while. Drop Kelly and Alison in city. Bye Girls, was a great day!

Go home and collapse. The End

6:20 pm - Melbourne Supanova 2009 - Day 1
I'm writing notes about my Supanova experience, but it's getting way long - even in note form. So I'm splitting it up into separate days. Saturdays will be the longest, as I gush about Richard Hatch

Friday Preview Night
Wearing: Cupcake Lolita coordinate. With a cardigan as it was chilly. I feel so cute!
Crap traffic is crap. Takes over an hour to get there. Blame my poor navigational skills.
Hi Jen and Nick! They have VIP tickets *jealous*
Charity Auction raises ridiculous amounts of money. Over $3000 or something. A guy I met last year gets the Jhonen Vasquez sketch for $1000. It all goes to a good cause - Vic Bushfire Appeal.
Is hungry. Sell my first born child to be able to afford food at venue.
Tales of the Black Freighter is cool. Only goes for half an hour.
That's it? Time to leave.

6:39 pm - The Aftermath of Cupcake Sunday
My feet are crippled, I have a sore throat and I can't stay awake. But it was worth it!

Cupcake Sunday was an Adelaide Lolita meet held at:

Cupcake Café
Shop 6, 224 The Parade
Norwood SA

americancandystand.com.au

Which is the most amazingly cute little cafe, ostensibly created just for small Lolita gatherings, that serves American style food, sweets and drinks and of course, most importantly, cupcakes! We had a mini-high tea, dined on yummy sandwiches and cupcakes, drank tea... and took LOTS of photos.

Which are here

After that, we walked up the Parade to Diva and ogled the jewelery. I bought a cupcake necklace and an earring set that included cupcakes, ice creams and stars. Then some of us went to Adelaide Uni to take some more pictures. It was a fantastic day and we got so many positive comments from just about anyone who saw us!

I felt so lovely in my outfit. It consisted of:

-pink no-brand loli shoes; seconds from [info]mariko_senpai/One Day in Paradise
-white knee high socks with lace; ribbon and gingerbread man buttons; Bonds socks, decorated by me
-white ruffle butt bloomers; made by me
-incredibly foofy petticoat; made by me
-white underskirt; me
-cupcake bustle skirt; me, made from cute quilting fabric
-pink off-brand shirt; found in op-shop last week
-cupcake headbow; made by me, same quilting fabric as skirt

8:11 am - Naughty, Naughty, Very Naughty
Last night David and I went out and splurged on our Christmas present to each other... despite the fact we both agreed we didn't need it and shouldn't be spending so much money. We went halves on a Wii console and the Guitar Hero: World Tour Band Kit plus we got Wii Play and another game (well, I say we went halves even though I don't have the money right now, I'm supposed to pay David back... Ha!)

We went into Harvey Norman in town, waited forever to get served and then tried to wheel and deal. I think we got a good deal by getting a bundle with a game and then getting them to price match the best sale prices on Guitar Hero and Wii Play.

Harvey Norman has a Bundle with the Wii Console plus The Guitar Hero Band Kit for just under $700 (we got Wii Play and the extra Game in our deal for just a bit more), however you need a Wii Remote for each instrument, so some poor kid and his siblings (or a set of triplets) are going to wake up Christmas morning, find this under the tree and then get real disappointed when they can't all play in a band together. :'(

Oh... Guitar Hero: World Tour kinda sucks... it has the most boring whiny songs in it. We started on easy to get used to the Drum Kit and it was really veggie: hit any note. Then we went up to the easy setting and all of a sudden I feel like the Drummer from Def Leppard must have felt after the accident! There are freaking notes everywhere! I hope that gets easier as I get used to it.

We were up till 2am playing and I woke up at 8am this morning and am only writing this now because the Wii is doing a system update.

*is gonna be a hermit for the foreseeable future*

10:22 pm - Slowly catching up
My photos from the ACG Edwardian Picnic from a couple weekends ago are now up.

It was a fun outing, even though I could only stay a couple hours. The weather was perfect and the location (Rymill Park) was fantastic.

I wore a black velvet skirt and white blouse, both from my vintage collection. I love having such a large and diverse wardrobe of clothing! :D

current mood: good

7:51 pm - I am still alive...
...but horribly disorganised and busy and lacking sleep.

Finally got around to posting photos from the ACG Ball.

I have two other lots of event photos that I have to edit and upload. Plus another event coming up on Saturday. Then the Zombie walk the week after that. Then Armageddon the week after that.

*sigh*

*head explodes*

11:32 pm - Zombies are eating my BRAIN!
Finally got around to uploading pictures from the Terra Nova convention. I got to wear my Trek mirror universe costume and it was a bit of fun.

I've been so busy and scatterbrained lately. I haven't had credit on my phone for over a week, haven't finished unpacking and I'm driving up to Melbourne for the weekend to pick up the last of my crap. Sorry to all the people I've been out of touch with for the past couple weeks. I'm sure I'll be MIA for a while yet.

Oh yeah, I had a birthday. It was good. Thanks to all who sent well wishes *hugs*

8:40 pm - Life update in dot points
- P.O.S car made it to Adelaide more or less intact. Guess who flew over to Melbourne to surprise me and drive back with me? Yeah, I'm a lucky girl :D

- Christmas in July party at [info]bondchick_nett's was awesome, though I stayed up way too late! Went shopping in the Mall before hand and apparently Adelaide doesn't like my Melbourne Style :( Who knew red tights were so offensive?

- AVCon Saturday was super fun! It was great catching up and hanging out with awesome people. I wore a Pirate Lolita outfit (modified from my earlier attempt and much more successful). I entered the Lolita and Fruits contest and won first place in the Lolita category! Yay! All credit goes to my super piratey bag of awesome!

- AVCon Sunday was awfully cold. Next year I'm cosplaying as an Eskimo...

- AVCon photos here. Nobody really recognised my cosplay, but lots of people came up and asked me about it.

- Drove to Melbourne on Tuesday with my parents in my brother's van. Whoa... Diesel is expensive... and not very economical at all. Driving back to Adelaide on Monday.

current mood: busy

9:43 pm - The Great Melbourne Exodus
Stage 1 begins on Thursday when I attempt to drive my P.O.S. car back to Adelaide. There is a slight chance that it wont actually make it. I'm prepared for that but not actually worried. It's actually a very reliable car for a hunk of junk that I've had since I was 16.

I'm hanging around in Adelaide for AVcon. Saturday I'm wearing a Lolita outfit and Sunday I'll be wearing this. That's Livian from the 1980 version of Astroboy. Weather appropriate cosplay? Me? Psaah!

I'll be joining a few fellow ACGers on the Costume panel on Sunday at 11am in the Little Theatre. So if you're going, I expect to see you there! Come and pick my brain on costume making... or just come and laugh at my attempts to sit down in my awkwardly elaborate costume! XD

Stage 2 of the move starts on Monday when my Parents and I drive back to Melbourne in my brother's van and try to get as much of my crap back to Adelaide as possible.

So approximately a week after that I'll be back in Adelaide. Permanently. Which, even though I'm incredibly happy to be living back home in Adelaide again, is still kinda sad.

Curse mankind for being so technologically backwards to have not invented the teleporter yet!

current mood: melancholy

6:10 pm - Costume Event Schedule
I've organised my costume schedule for the next half year and here it is. 8:23 pm - Australian Costumers' Guild Ball 2008
I'm unofficially claiming this event as my birthday/welcome home party** so I'm expecting all my non-ACG friends to be there too!!!

This year sees the Ball held in a new location and a better price on a sliding scale (ie the earlier you buy your ticket the cheaper it is). Of course entry does require a costume though that can be absolutely anything (scifi, fantasy, cosplay, historical, lolita, goth, etc) and it doesn't matter whether it's professional quality, thrown together at the last minute, bought, borrowed, rented or looks like one of these (though I do hope people put in a bit more effort than that XD).

When: Saturday 30 August 2008
Where: North Adelaide Community Centre - 176 Tynte Street, Adelaide
Time: The Hall will open at 7:30pm and the Parade Competition will start at 8pm sharp. Usually finishes around midnight.
Cost: If you buy your ticket before 30 June it is $25 for members and $40 for non-members,
1 July to 31 July is $30 members and $45 for non-members
1 August to 22 August is $35 for members and $50 for non-members
(Booking close on 22 August)

More Details

Now, I'm sure you noticed ACG members get cheaper tickets. So don't ya think this the perfect time to join?? There are some great events coming up this year plus you'll get discounts and COZtume magazine
Download the membership form here

**Oh yeah, I'm finally moving back to Adelaide. I'm actually trying to be back by mid-July.

10:07 am - Ugh... Winter... just ugh
The past three out of four days of Winter here in Melbourne have been so thick with fog that I can literally see it hanging in the hair when I open the front door. Not just early in the morning either, it lasts until early afternoon. It started smack bang on the first day of Winter too.

WTF Melbourne? I hate you.
